Asteroid Apophis

‘God Of Destruction’ Will Pass From Close To Earth, 65 Thousand Times More Dangerous Than Atomic Bomb

Read Time:2 Minute, 0 Second

The third most dangerous Asteroid Apophis called the ‘God of Destruction’, will pass close to the Earth on 6 March. A few days ago its first picture was revealed to the world. Apophis is considered the king of all potentially dangerous asteroids. At about 370 meters wide, this rock is in danger of hitting the earth in the next 48 years, but according to NASA scientists, it is very unlikely. It will be broadcast live 24 hours on a virtual telescope project passing close to the earth. This Apophis asteroid, which brought a catastrophe, means in Greek, the god of destruction.

Why the God of Destruction?

The Virtual Telescope Project was successful in re-drawing the picture of Asteroid Apophis after 8 years of monitoring. It is considered to be one of the most dangerous rocks present in the supernatural asteroid solar system. This powerful 27 billion kg asteroid can be gauged by the fact that if it hits the earth, it can form a pit a mile wide and 518 meters deep into the earth. Not only this, it would have the same effect as the explosion of 88 million tons of TNT, which would be 65 thousand times more terrible than the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima.

Fear of collision with the earth?

According to the assessment, the Asteroid Apophis will pass a distance of about 16 million kilometers from the earth. The orbital path of the asteroid will not be affected due to passing through such a distance. Asteroid apophyses can be easily viewed with a telescope. University of Hawaii astronomer David Tholen said that data from the Subaru telescope revealed that Apophis was gaining momentum. Scientists say that in the year 2029, if this asteroid passes only the right distance, the Earth’s gravitational force will change its course and it will return in the year 2068 and may hit the Earth on 12 April 2068.

Increasing size

Apophis asteroids are made of nickel and iron, and the radar image shows that it is constantly getting longer. Its shape is now becoming like peanuts. However, the researchers also said that more analysis is still needed. Scientists are investigating whether it will hit the Earth in the year 2068. Earlier research had said that the probability of this asteroid colliding is only 2.7 percent. The god of destruction Apophis is larger in size than the Eiffel Tower in France.
