Couple of takeaways from the first week of training for the Baltimore Ravens
With the start of the 2022 NFL season around the corner as we hit preseason, there will be a number of Baltimore Ravens fans who will be excited about what the campaign has to offer.
Indeed, many of those who support the Maryland outfit will have been left disappointed with how the previous campaign had finished, especially after starting off incredibly strongly and looking like a serious Super Bowl contender.
Last year is in the past for the Ravens as strong training camp shows
However, as they slumped to an 8-9 finish, it would be difficult to pin the blame on anything other than the misfortune that the organization had suffered at various stages of the season. They suffered season-ending injuries throughout the campaign, with notable issues having been picked up by star players before the season even got started.
Nonetheless, that was all last year and is now in the past. John Harbaugh and his team have been back on the training field recently and we have been able to pick up some of the biggest takeaways that we feel show the Ravens are ready for business this season!
Wide receivers are already producing
The offensive side of the ball is already looking rather strong for the Baltimore Ravens, with the first week of training having already shown that the wide receiver corp knows exactly what to do and what is expected of them.
Indeed, the likes of Rashod Bateman, James Proche II, and Devin Duvernay have already been extremely consistent with their production on the training field, with each of them appearing to respond to the fact that they are the most experienced of a rather young group.

Of course, following the surprise trade of Marquise “Hollywood” Brown to the Arizona Cardinals during the 2022 NFL Draft, there have been rumors about whether the Ravens would look to add an experienced wide receiver to its locker room. However, Bateman is already showing that he could be comfortable as the team’s No. 1 receiver.
Add in the fact that Jaylon Moore and Shemar Bridges are also playing rather well in camp, the Ravens will feel confident, especially as quarterback Lamar Jackson looks to be a man on a mission…
Is Lamar Jackson having his best camp ever?
While there are rumors and a lot of noise regarding his contract situation at the Ravens, that does not appear to have had any negative impact on Jackson. In fact, it could be argued that it has had a positive impact on the QB.
Entering the final year of his rookie deal, it is a huge year for everyone involved and if Jackson was to get what he wants, then he will need to make sure he has a career year on the gridiron. He has spoken about how he is hopeful of getting things sorted, but that certainly has not taken away from the fact that he is determined.
Indeed, with sports betting on the rise in Maryland, there will be punters who will be keeping an eye on what the quarterback is able to achieve, with many perhaps likely to consider placing a wager every now and again.
Many will have already seen the Caesars Maryland Sportsbook offers that have been made available to utilize at this stage of the season, and with a determined Jackson leading the franchise, there will be many players who will feel some form of attraction to them.
Fans of the Ravens will know what that means, though, when they have a determined Jackson. The QB – who was the MVP in 2019 – 49-9 in the regular season since entering the NFL and many will feel confident that he can get them to the postseason once again if he stays free.
Michael Pierce is showing impressive signs once again
While he may have missed the mandatory minicamp, it would seem as though Michael Pierce is making up for lost time and showing everyone what he can do when he is on the field. A veteran, the defensive tackle is making a mockery of some of the offensive players who are trying to get past him.
Pierce has been making his presence felt as he has moved bodies off the line of scrimmage with ease, while he passed his conditioning test and looks happy to be back out there. Of course, there is still some work that needs to be done in regard to fitness, but with a little more than a month of the summer left and some needed preseason fixtures to take place first, there is no doubt that he will be ready and integral to Balitmore’s defensive front.
Special teams are doing just fine
Justin Tucker makes kicking in the NFL and sports in general look relatively easy and something that we can all go and do when given the opportunity even when we know this is not always possible. He did it once again in practice as he nailed a 60-yard field goal.

Furthermore, it appears as though he and rookie punter Jordan Stout have a good relationship that works for the organization, too. The pair are getting on well and there do not appear to be any teething problems thus far.
Speaking of Stout, the rookie punter undoubtedly has a strong leg, but it is clear that he has accuracy, as well. During camp, he managed to make a number of directional punts consistently, with each of these showing that he can be a real weapon for Harbaugh’s team when they have to punt the ball away.
Final Thoughts
So, there you have it! Just a few of the biggest takeaways from the first week of training camp at the Baltimore Ravens. Each of those mentioned and outlined above are undeniable positives and should give the organization the edge that they need to compete in the NFL this season. However, whether it will translate to the field when the league begins is something time will only be able to answer.
