The problem of baldness is solved – stem cells will come to the rescue

Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

Many men suffer from early baldness, but now scientists give them hope that this problem can still be solved.

They allow you to restore and maintain hair follicles. Until recently, scientists could not obtain a sufficient number of stem cells that generate follicles and can significantly increase the hairline. But now the problem is solved.

Scientists implanted special stem cells into mice, which turned into different types of skin cells and hair follicles. At first, experts worked with skin cells – fibroblasts. By adding three genes, they turned the cells into stem cells that could have become any other cell in the body. They played the role of a source of cells necessary for hair growth.

It was proven that the precise control of the growth time of the cells made it possible to obtain stem cells in large quantities. The resulting stem cells were mixed with rodent skin cells, and then implanted in immunosuppressed animals (which made it possible to avoid rejection of the implant). As a result, the cells formed the outer layer (the epithelial component of the follicle) and the hair follicles themselves as a whole, identical to human ones.

Now scientists have to adapt the technology for use in humans. They were able to obtain follicle cells, but not human skin cells. And with baldness, both types of cells are lost. That is, you need to understand how to get dermal papillae associated with the capillary system.
