Read Time:2 Minute, 40 Second

A gunman killed eight people and injured several people in a late-night shootout outside a FedEx center near the Indianapolis airport in the US. 4 Sikh community members are among those killed. Police said that the attacker later shot himself and died. This is the latest incident of mass shootings in the US after remaining somewhat quiet during the global pandemic. Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar has expressed grief over this incident.

According to the police, 4 people from the Sikh community have been killed in the shootout. These include three women and one male. Local businessman Gurinder Singh Khalsa has given information about this. The slain Indians could not be identified, but a law student of Indian origin said that his grandmother Amarjeet Kaur Johal was killed in the shootout.

Employees of the company also included in the dead

Five people were admitted to the hospital after the shootings on late Thursday night. Police spokeswoman Jenny Cook said the condition of one of them was critical. Two other people were released on the spot after treatment. FedEx reported that the dead included company employees. An eyewitness said that he was working inside the building when he heard the sound of multiple bullets firing one after the other.

Levi Miller told WTHR TV, “I saw a man carrying a rifle in his hand and he opened fire while speaking something.” He said, “I sat in hiding so that he could not see me because I thought he would shoot me if I saw him.” Earlier, last month, eight people were shot at massage centers throughout the Atlanta area and 10 were killed in a Colorado supermarket shootout.

This is the third firing incident in Indianapolis this year alone. Five people, including a pregnant woman, died in January and a man is accused of killing three adults and a child and kidnapping a girl during a house debate in March. Police have not yet been able to identify the attacker or reveal whether he was an employee of the center. He has said that, ‘preliminary investigation based on evidence from the spot’ suggests that the attacker committed suicide.

Order to bend the flags in half by 20 April

“We are trying to find out the exact cause of this incident,” Cook said. Craig McCart of the Indianapolis Police told NBC Today on Friday morning that officers still know very little. ” Chris Lavender, a spokesman for the FBI’s Indianapolis office, said they are assisting police in the investigation. The family members of some employees gathered at a nearby hotel and stood for hours to know about them, while some relatives said that they did not get any information about their loved ones for several hours.

Indianapolis Mayor Jog Hogsett regretted that the city had ‘suffered another gruesome incident of mass shootings, an act of violence that killed eight of our neighbors’. Governor Eric Holcomb said, “At such times, words like justice and sorrow are lessened.” He ordered the flags to be bowed in half by 20 April. The White House said President Joe Biden would be given details of the shooting incident and said advisors are in contact with the city’s mayor and law enforcement officials.
