‘Horrifying’: Man and woman allegedly driven into amid neighbour dispute over dogs

Police faced a “very difficult and confronting” scene after an SUV was allegedly driven into a man and woman amid a neighbourhood dispute in Sydney’s west last night.

Emergency services found a 41-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman with “significant injuries” on Cygnus Close in Doonside about 8.50pm yesterday.

Detective Superintendent Darren Newman said the scene was “horrible” and very confronting for first responders.

Newman said the dispute allegedly began when a 41-year-old man was walking his dogs along the back of a 27-year-old’s property and a verbal fight about the dogs occurred.

The man walking the dogs went around to the front of the property, where the 27-year-old allegedly threatened him with an axe.

Newman alleged the man then went to his home, told his partner and 18-year-old daughter about the threat and they all went to the younger man’s house.

The 27-year-old allegedly drove away from his home in a white Ford Territory and then came back before the group all had another verbal fight, and the Ford driver allegedly made threats towards the family.

Emergency workers help a man lying on the ground at night time.

“He then reversed the car… back off from where everyone was standing.

“He has then revved the car a number of times very aggressively, he then drove into the 42-year-old female and the 41-year-old male, causing significant injuries to both of them,” Newman said.

Newman alleged the driver fled the scene and hit a tree with his car before he was arrested by police.

CCTV from a neighbour’s home captured audio of the incident.

“The screams that occurred just after the incident occurred are horrifying,” he said.

He said the woman was in a stable condition after suffering significant head injuries.

The man is currently in surgery with head injuries, fractures and dislocations to both of his legs.

“They are significant dislocations,” Newman said.

“My message to the community is please have some reasonable and calm conversations with your neighbours, don’t resort to threats and violence, particularly with a motor vehicle.”

The 27-year-old was admitted to hospital after complaining of chest pains but was transferred back to Blacktown Police Station.

He has been charged with five offences including use offensive weapon, causing grievous bodily harm to person with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, fail to stop and assist and dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail and is expected to appear at Blacktown Local Court today.
