India women win 2nd successive Kabaddi World Cup title, PM Modi sends wishes

India women’s team secured their second successive Women’s Kabaddi World Cup title in Dhaka, beating Chinese Taipei 35–28 in the final on Monday, November 24. India maintained excellent form throughout the tournament, winning all their group matches to reach the semi-finals, where they faced Iran.

They continued their sensational form in the knockouts as well and defeated Iran 33–21 to secure a place in the final. On the other hand, Chinese Taipei had also enjoyed an unbeaten group stage and advanced to the final after overcoming hosts Bangladesh 25–18 in their semi-final clash. However, it was India who held their nerve in the summit clash and secured their second consecutive World Cup title.

Following their historic win, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the team and said that the victory will inspire future generations to take up the sport.

“Congratulations to our Indian Women’s Kabaddi Team for making the nation proud by winning the Kabaddi World Cup 2025! They have showcased outstanding grit, skills and dedication. Their victory will inspire countless youngsters to pursue Kabaddi, dream bigger and aim higher,” wrote PM Modi on his X account.

Former India captain and Puneri Paltan Head Coach in the Pro Kabaddi League, Ajay Thakur also congratulated the team and hailed the progress of women’s kabaddi in the world.

“It is a very proud moment for India as the women’s team retained the World Cup trophy in Dhaka. Their dominant run to the final and then the trophy shows how much women’s kabaddi has progressed in the last few years. It is also a testament to the global appeal of the sport, with Bangladesh hosting the World Cup, and I hope that this momentum continues in the years to come,” Thakur was quoted as saying by Pro Kabaddi com
