Cyclone Montha Live: Heavy rain, strong wind in Andhra, Odisha ahead of landfall

Cyclone Montha Live Updates: As Cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall today, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha were placed on high alert, triggering precautionary evacuations and post-landfall preparations. Weather authorities have warned of rough sea conditions along the Andhra coast from Nellore to Srikakulam, with waves likely to rise between 2 and 4.7 metres as the system intensifies into a cyclonic storm on Tuesday morning.
Most parts of coastal Andhra Pradesh is forecast to receive light to moderate rainfall, with heavy to very heavy showers in some areas and extremely heavy rainfall at isolated locations between October 27 and 29. Stay with indiatoday.in for the latest updates.

Cyclone Montha is expected to make landfall today, with the Bay of Bengal turning rough near Chennai’s Pattinapakkam beach close to Marina in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai.

Continuous rain has been lashing Andhra Pradesh’s Rajolu constituency since yesterday due to the impact of Cyclone Montha. Authorities have set up 58 main rehabilitation centres, along with additional ones in every village, to accommodate evacuees from coastal areas.

Meals have been arranged for around 1,000 people staying at these centres, with the number expected to rise. Officials have also identified 45 pregnant women across the constituency and admitted them to nearby PHCs as a precaution.

District officials said all necessary measures are in place to tackle the cyclone’s impact and urged residents to stay indoors unless essential.

In view of Cyclone Montha forming over the central Bay of Bengal, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has pre-deployed 25 teams across the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, and Puducherry likely to be affected.

Another 20 teams have been kept on standby at strategic locations for immediate deployment if needed. Each team is equipped with boats, communication gear, cutting tools, and other specialised rescue equipment for evacuation, relief, and restoration operations, the NDRF said.

Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, Radheshyam Sharma, said that several parts of Rajasthan recorded heavy to very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours due to the combined impact of Cyclone Montha over the Bay of Bengal, a depression over the Arabian Sea, and another system over northwestern India.
