Israel Hamas War Live Updates: Israeli military said “Overnight, IDF fighter jets struck Asem Abu Rakaba, the Head of Hamas’ Aerial Array who was responsible for Hamas’ UAVs, drones, paragliders, aerial detection and defense. He took part in planning the October 7 massacre and commanded the terrorists who infiltrated Israel on paragliders and was responsible for the drone attacks on IDF posts.”

Earlier today, India abstained from voting on the UN General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate humanitarian truce in the Israel-Hamas conflict and unhindered humanitarian access in the Gaza Strip. This resolution followed Israel’s counter-offensive against Hamas after significant attacks on October 7 that resulted in a high number of casualties.

Amid intensified Israeli airstrikes on Friday night, internet and phone services in the Gaza Strip suffered a crippling collapse, effectively isolating its 2.3 million residents from both external communication and each other. This development came as Israel’s military announced the “expansion” of its ground operations within the besieged territory, a significant move toward a potential full-scale invasion of Gaza. Israel’s stated objective is to dismantle the ruling Hamas militant group after its recent incursion into southern Israel, leading to heightened tensions.

The night sky over Gaza City was illuminated by a barrage of airstrikes following the loss of internet, cellular, and landline services, adding to the woes of a region already grappling with a lack of electricity for weeks. This isolation left Palestinians confined to their homes and shelters, with dwindling supplies of food and water. The Palestinian telecommunications provider, Paltel, attributed the “complete disruption” to the ongoing bombardment.

Amid the information blackout, it remained unclear how many casualties resulted from the latest airstrikes. The Red Crescent reported difficulties in reaching their medical teams, while residents were unable to call for ambulances, leaving rescuers reliant on sound cues from explosions to locate the injured. International aid organizations could only maintain limited contact with their staff using satellite phones.

Relatives residing outside Gaza experienced distress as their messaging chats with loved ones within abruptly ceased, and calls failed to connect. Wafaa Abdul Rahman, the director of a feminist organization in Ramallah, expressed her deep concerns, having not heard from her family in central Gaza for hours. She highlighted the harrowing scenes broadcast on live television, depicting families crushed by airstrikes in recent weeks.

Israeli military spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari confirmed that ground forces were “expanding their activity” in Gaza on Friday evening, utilizing substantial force to achieve their war objectives. Israel contends that its airstrikes target Hamas fighters and infrastructure, emphasizing that militants operate within civilian areas, thereby endangering them.

In anticipation of an imminent ground offensive, Israel has amassed a significant number of troops along the Gaza border. Earlier, the military disclosed that ground forces had carried out their second lengthy incursion into Gaza in as many days, targeting numerous militant sites over the past 24 hours. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant also revealed that Israel anticipates a protracted and challenging ground offensive in Gaza, which will involve the dismantling of Hamas’ extensive tunnel network and the elimination of “pockets of resistance” in a lengthy phase of lower-intensity conflict.
