‘We are with NDA, have issued whip’: Union minister Jayant Chaudhary supports Waqf Amendment Bill

Union minister and RLD President Jayant Chaudhary on Wednesday showed support to the Waqf Amendment Bill which is to be introduced in the Lok Sabha today.

Chaudhary said “We are with NDA. We’ve Issued Whip.”

Union minister George Kurian stated that all communities backed the amendment bill, noting that only the large estate owners were against the bill.

Kurian stated “All communities support this amendment bill, and we can see that poor Muslims and the middle class also support this Bill. Only big landlords are opposing this Bill.” Additionally, he indicated that the bill maintained transparency as it dealt with land and property matters.

“It is very transparent because it is connected to the land and property,” he stated.

Uttar Pradesh minister OP Rajbhar criticised the opposition parties, asserting that they were engaging in electoral politics.

“Samajwadi Party, BSP, Congress supporters are doing vote politics…” Rajbhar said.

He added that the Waqf Board regulations had undergone three amendments, with periodic corrections to address deficiencies, ensuring benefits reached all those under the Waqf Board rules.

“The Waqf Board rules have been amended thrice before, the shortcomings in it are corrected from time to time, so now it is being corrected… I would like to ask those who are opposing to tell me the name of one poor person who has been given the benefit of Waqf Board land… The government wants that those who come under the Waqf Board Rules should get the benefit… These people are opposing only for votes,” he further stated.

The Waqf (Amendment) Bill will be presented in Parliament on Wednesday. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress are directing their MPs to attend the House. With the parties in the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance and the Opposition INDIA bloc showing no signs of reaching agreement, the final decisions may depend on the majority numbers in the House.
