Rohit Sharma opens up on weakness against left-armers: Defending myself not my job

Star India batter Rohit Sharma has opened up on his weakness against left-arm seamers, calling it a part of the game. Rohit has often been called out for his weakness against the left-arm seamers due to his repeated dismissals against them. In the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), the opening batter has been dismissed thrice by the left-arm bowlers as he lost his wicket against Khaleel Ahmed, Yash Dayal and Arshad Khan.

In his international career, Rohit has lost his wicket 110 times against a left-arm bowler. Recently, the star batter addressed the criticism on his batting, saying that it’s a part of the game, and he can’t go around defending himself for every comment made.

“I’ve faced a lot of criticism, even unnecessary criticism. I can’t say that criticism doesn’t affect anyone. So much has been said about me getting out to left-arm seamers. Fine, it happens. That’s part of the game. But if you go around defending every comment, you’re just wasting your time. Defending myself is not my job,” said Rohit in an interview with Vimal Kumar.

Recently, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket ahead of the upcoming tour of England. He finished his career with 4301 runs from 67 matches at an average of 40.57 and a strike rate of 57.05. Rohit scored 12 hundreds in his career, all of which came in a winning cause.

The right-handed batter also hit a whopping 88 sixes in the longest format, the second most by an Indian after Virender Sehwag (91 sixes). He led India in 24 Tests and won 12, lost nine and three ended in a draw. Meanwhile, in the IPL 2025, Rohit has scored 300 runs from 11 innings at an average of 30 and a strike rate of 152.28. The Mumbai Indians (MI) batter will be eager to continue his form with the tournament set to resume in the coming days.
