Measurements indicate a 50-centimetre tsunami at Ishinomaki port in Miyagi prefecture, whilst Tokachi port recorded a 40-centimetre surge. Additionally, a 30-centimetre wave was observed in Erimo town, situated in Hokkaido’s southeastern region.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre confirmed the earthquake-generated tsunami posed potential risks to all Hawaiian island coastlines. The warning emphasised immediate action for protecting lives and property, with initial waves expected at 7 p.m. Tuesday local time.

The Oregon Department of Emergency Management announced via Facebook that modest tsunami waves, ranging between 1 to 3 feet (0.3 to 0.9 metres), were anticipated along the coast from 11:40 p.m. local time. Officials advised residents to avoid coastal areas, including beaches, harbours and marinas, until authorities lifted the advisory.
