Israel-Iran conflict Live: US embassy closed after nearby Iranian strike in Jerusalem

Israel Iran Conflict: Israel continued its military strikes on Iran for a third straight day, targeting Tehran and other regions, killing 224 people, including Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence chief Mohammed Kazemi and two generals. Israel’s airspace and airports were shut down. Army chief Eyal Zamir vowed to intensify the attacks against what he called an “existential threat”.

‘Most significant since Iraq war’: Iran’s massive strike triggers U.S.-Israel defense

As the two arch-rivals in the Middle East — Israel and Iran — intensify their assaults on each other, the region appears to be teetering on the edge of a full-scale war. Stay tuned to for the latest developments on this rapidly unfolding conflict.

Some minor damage was reported from concussions caused by Iranian missile strikes near the US embassy branch in Tel Aviv, though no injuries to US personnel occurred. The US Ambassador to Israel said the embassy and consulate will remain officially closed today, as a shelter-in-place order is still in effect.

The Israeli Army on Monday claimed that it had attacked the headquarters of the Quds Force, one of five branches of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. This comes days after the commander of the elite Quds Force, Esmail Waani, was killed in an Israeli airstrike. “I woke up at 2:30 am on Friday to loud explosions and rushed to the basement. We haven’t slept since,” says Imtisal Mohidin, one of hundreds of Indian medical students stranded in Iran told news agency ANI.

With blasts reported just a few kilometres from student hostels and apartments, fear is mounting — and so is the plea to the Government of India: evacuate us before it’s too late. European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen revealed that she agreed with Benjamin Netanyahu over a call that “Iran should not have a nuclear weapon, without any question.”

A strong critic of Netanyahu’s military actions in Gaza, Von der Leyen has voiced other European leaders’ concerns, saying that Iran can not be allowed to have a nuclear weapon.

“Iran is the principal source of regional instability,” she added. It is 6 am in Israel. Residents in Haifa, Tel Aviv and parts of central Israel woke up to images of plumes of smoke billowing and the trail of destruction left behind by Iran’s overnight missile assault. The pictures capture the aftermath.
