Indians among 300 US deportees detained at Panama hotel, seek help from window

According to an Associated Press report, a majority of the nearly 300 deportees belonged to India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and China. Panama is being used as a stop-over as the US faces difficulties in the deportation process to some of these nations.

Nearly 300 illegal immigrants, including Indians, deported from the US as part of President Donald Trump’s massive crackdown against undocumented aliens, are currently being detained at a hotel in Panama as officials are scrambling to send them back to their home countries.

The desperate deportees were holding up signs that said “please help us” on their hotel room windows, seeking help.

According to an Associated Press report, a majority of the nearly 300 deportees belonged to India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Afghanistan and China. Panama is being used as a stop-over as the US faces difficulties in the deportation process to some of these nations.

At least 300 people, including Indians, are being detained in a Panama hotel as they await their repatriation after being deported by the US after President Donald Trump launched a drive to deport illegal immigrants.

The detainees were not allowed to leave as the Panamanian government is waiting for international authorities to organize a return to their countries.
