World’s Longest Tunnel Opens, Modi Inaugurates Atal Tunnel
In Himachal Pradesh, the world’s longest highway tunnel has been opened today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the strategically important all-weather Atal tunnel (Atal tunnel) at Rohtang in Himachal Pradesh at 10 am on Saturday. Due to this tunnel, the distance between Manali and Leh decreased by 46 kms. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was also present. After the inaugural function, PM Modi will participate in a public event at Sisu and Solang Valley of Lahaul Spiti.
Atal Tunnel is the longest highway tunnel in the world and the 9.02 long tunnel will connect Manali with Lahaul Spiti Valley throughout the years. The first valley was cut off from the remaining part due to heavy snowfall for six months. The tunnel is built at an altitude of about 3,000 metres above sea level with sophisticated specifications between the mountain ranges of Pir Panjal in the Himalayas. So let’s know all the highlights of this programme…
