US President Donald Trump has given the Legion of Merit to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, one of the country’s most prestigious accolades. PM Modi has been given this honor to lead to increasing strategic cooperation between India and America. On behalf of India, Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu accepted the honor from Robert O’Brien, the National Security Advisor of America at the White House.
What is Legion of Merit?
The Legion of Merit is the only military honor in the United States that holds separate positions and is the first such honor awarded to citizens of other countries. It is given for outstanding works, loyalty to truth, and loyalty to military or civilian places. American military personnel is eligible for a lower rank of legion but foreigners may be given officers, commanders, and commanders in chief. These can be given to foreign officials of higher positions or advisers of a foreign military.

It is a white cross of five directions whose edges are red. These occur on a green circle with 13 white stars inside the blue in the center. Prior to Modi Modi has been given to other members of the Legion of Merit Quad – former Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison. Why did America give?
US National Security Advisor Robert O’Brien gave the honor to Indian Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu. He tweeted a picture of the occasion and wrote that President Donald Trump has honored Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the Legion of Merit. This honor has been given for the way he has taken India to the global stage and strengthened the India-US relationship.
