India’s Neeraj Chopra qualified for the final of the javelin throw at the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo on Wednesday.
Neeraj, the defending champion, beat the automatic cut-off mark of 84.50m with an 84.85m throw from his first attempt in the qualification round.
Amongst the other Indians in the field, only Sachin Yadav made the cut for the final after finishing 10th with a best throw of 83.67m. The top 12 throwers make the final.
Rohit Yadav (77.81m) and Yash Vir Singh (77.51m) missed out on the qualification.

The javelin throw final will happen on Thursday, with the action starting at 3:53 PM IST. In the men’s 200m heats, India’s Animesh Kujur clocked 20.77s — slower than his National Record of 20.32s — finished ninth in Heat 3 and failed to make the event’s final.
