Chennai:- Mumbai Indians beat Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs in a thrilling match of the 2021 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 152 runs for the loss of all wickets in 20 overs. KKR made a strong start, but after Rahul Chahar’s lethal bowling, Krunal, Burmah, and Trent Boult (27/2) bowled in the death overs to help Mumbai defend 142 for 7.

Apart from Rana and Gill, no other Kolkata batsman could reach the tens. Mumbai thus opened their account in the tournament with a 10-run win, while this is KKR’s first defeat. Earlier, Kolkata had started well by defeating Sunrisers in their first match, while Mumbai Indians lost to Virat-captained Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The thrill of the last two overs

Kolkata Knight Riders needed 19 runs in the last 2 overs. Mumbai’s leading bowler Bumrah, who came in to bowl the 19th over, bowled accurately and conceded just 4 runs. Kkr thus needed 15 runs in the last over. Trent Boult comes in over the 20th. Russell stole the single off the first ball. Dinesh Karthik could take a single off the second ball. Boult caught and bowled Russell on the third ball. He then bowled Pat Cummins on the fourth ball to end KKR’s game. Bhajji scored two off the 5th ball.

The thrill of Mumbai’s innings

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) reduced Mumbai Indians to 152 in 20 overs with Andre Russell bowling brilliantly in the last over. Russell took five wickets for 15 runs in two overs to make it just 38 runs for the loss of seven wickets in the last five overs. Suryakumar Yadav, who was in a superb rhythm for Mumbai, scored 56 and skipper Rohit Sharma 43. The duo put on a 76-run stand for the second wicket but no batsman other than them could play big innings.
