Eric Garcia says Barcelona showed ‘incredible mentality’ to down Benfica in Champions League

Eric Garcia came off the bench to score in Barcelona’s wild 5-4 win over Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday. The versatile star made it 4-4 before Raphinha then grabbed a late winner deep into stoppage time for Hansi Flick’s side.

Eric praised his team’s resilience and the character they showed in Portugal to comeback and grab the three points.

“Benfica is a very dangerous team, they have done a lot of damage to us. It is an incredible victory, we are very happy. The team has not lost face in the game at any time,” he told Movistar. “To start losing in the second minute… it upsets the plans. The team has shown an incredible mentality. Atlético lost here. They have already shown how good they are.”

Eric also spoke about his future at Barca. He’s been linked with a move to Girona or Como but seems to be thinking only of trying to force his way into Flick’s thinking.

“I think all players want to feel important. My job is to make the most of the minutes I have so that the manager changes his mind,” he added. “We knew we were coming with the goal of qualifying. We hope to be directly qualified for the next round.” Barcelona will now head home and start preparing for a La Liga clash with Valencia.
