Deccan Chargers Batter, Virat Kohli’s U19 World Cup Teammate To Umpire In IPL 2025

Former Deccan Chargers batter Tanmay Srivastava, who also played for the Kings XI Punjab, Kochi Tuskers Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, will be one of the umpires in IPL 2025. Srivastava was part of the Indian team that won the 2008 U19 World Cup under Virat Kohli’s captaincy.

The official announcement has been made, confirming that Tanmay Srivastava, a key member of the victorious U-19 team, will step into the IPL as an umpire this season.

Srivastava retired from professional cricket five years ago and has since been officiating in domestic games.

“A true player never leaves the field—just changes the game. Wishing Tanmay Srivastava the best as he dons a new hat with the same passion,” the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association tweeted on Monday evening.

Srivastava represented the Kings XI Punjab in the 2008 and 2009 seasons, featuring in seven games.

Despite his limited success in the Indian Premier League, Srivastava enjoyed a solid domestic career, amassing almost 5000 runs in 90 first-class games.

It will be Srivastava’s U19 skipper, Kohli, who will take the field in the opening game of the 18th season.

Srivastava made his List A debut in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in October 2006 and played for India Blue against India Green. Unfortunately, he scored a three-ball duck on debut.

Despite a failure, Srivastava finished his List A career with 1728 runs in 44 matches at an average of 44.3 with seven hundreds to his name.

A week later, Srivastava made his first-class debut in the Irani Trophy but could score just one and 0 in the two innings.

Srivastava made his T20 debut in the Inter-State T20 tournament in April 2007 but scored just six runs in the match against Railways.

Srivastava was last seen in action in the 2022 Legends League, scoring 81 runs in three innings, at an average of 40.5.
