Russia and Ukraine traded strikes overnight. Six people have been killed in Kyiv, according to the city mayor, while three people have died in Russia in the border regions of Krasnodar and Rostov, officials say.
This comes as a flurry of diplomatic moves is under way. It all began when the US proposed a peace plan to end the war. The Kremlin reacted positively, but Kyiv and European leaders accused it of favouring Russia.
In response, Kyiv and European leaders put forward a counter proposal after meeting in Geneva this weekend. This time, the Kremlin says the plan “does not work” for them.
Amid this opposition, a series of meetings is expected. Today, there will be a meeting between US and Russian officials in Abu Dhabi, and a virtual one between the coalition of the willing, hosted by Keir Starmer and Emmanuel Macron. Ukraine’s official also says they expect a meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump in the next few days.
