Two terrorists attempting to infiltrate across the Line of Control in the Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district were gunned down by the Indian Army on Thursday. A heavy exchange of fire continues between the security forces and terrorists.
The encounter took place near Naushehra Naar under Operation Naushera Nar IV, where alert troops engaged a group of heavily armed infiltrators trying to cross into Indian territory. A brief exchange of fire ensued, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists, while according to the sources, five more terrorists could be hiding in the area.
Following the encounter, a search operation was launched in the surrounding area to rule out the presence of any additional infiltrators or suspicious activity.
“Based on intelligence provided by JKP regarding likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in Gurez Sector. Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Operation is in progress,” Indian Army shared an update in a post on X.
On August 2, security forces eliminated three militants during an encounter in the Akhal forest area. The operation began on August 1 after intelligence inputs indicated the presence of armed militants in the dense forest region.
A cordon and search operation was launched, which triggered an encounter when the terrorists opened fire on the advancing troops. After an initial exchange of gunfire, the operation was briefly halted overnight and resumed the following morning, leading to the killing of three more terrorists.
