Pahalgam Attack Live: Tourist influx reduces in Jammu amid tensions over Pahalgam terror attack

Rakesh Wazir, president of the Hotel and Restaurant Association in Katra, on Monday said that the deadly Pahalgam terrorist attack has “significantly” impacted the influx of tourists and bookings even in the Union territory of Jammu. He said that at least 35 per cent of bookings have been cancelled.

“The Pahalgam terrorist attack has had a significant impact on the entire booking. Bookings are getting cancelled continuously. According to our assessment, about 35 to 37 per cent of bookings have been cancelled so far. The number of people in the yatra has been reduced to merely 20,000 to 22,000 from 45,000,” Wazir told ANI.

Appealing to people that the situation was never disturbed in places like Katra, he said that the notion that people have about the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir needs to change.

“I appeal to people that the situation in Katra, in particular, was never disturbed before, nor is it today. The place where this happened is also very far away. And if we talk about the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the entire situation here is fine. There is a need to change the notion people have,” Wazir added.

‘This is our Kashmir, our country, we will come here’: Atul Kulkarni visits Pahalgam following terror attack

In the aftermath of the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, actor Atul Kulkarni made the decision to visit Kashmir to show solidarity with the region and its people.

Deeply shaken by the attack that claimed the lives of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, as well as the fear it instilled among tourists, Kulkarni felt compelled to travel to the area in person.

Speaking with ANI, Kulkarni expressed his sorrow over the incident. “What happened on the 22nd was a very tragic event; this should not have happened. The entire country is deeply saddened,” Kulkarni said.

He shared that, like many others, his first instinct was to express his concerns online, but he soon realized that meaningful action was needed.

“Whenever something like this happens, we post on social media, talk to friends, or write something. But then I thought, what can I actually do in real action?” he reflected.

Kulkarni’s decision to visit Kashmir was largely motivated by reports that 90 percent of tourist bookings in the region had been canceled in the wake of the attack.

“I thought, this is the message the terrorists want to send—‘Don’t come to our Kashmir.’ But this will not happen. This is our Kashmir, this is our country. We will come, and we will not listen to them. I felt I couldn’t convey this message from Mumbai. I should come here and tell people, ‘Brother, I have come; you should come too,’” he said, stressing that he couldn’t deliver this message while being distant from the region.

Businessman Robert Vadra on Monday clarified his recent comments regarding the Pahalgam terror attack, stating that his remarks had been “misinterpreted” and emphasizing that it was his responsibility to provide clarification.

Vadra further expressed his strong condemnation of the attack and reiterated his unwavering support for India.

In a Facebook post, he wrote, “Since my intentions have been misinterpreted, I feel it is my responsibility to clarify them.”

“I am committed to being honest, transparent, and respectful in this clarification. I chose to remain silent for a few days, but this should not be seen as silence, indifference, or a lack of patriotism,” he added.

Vadra explained, “In fact, it is due to my deep love for my country, my respect for the truth, and my commitment to integrity that I took the time to reflect before speaking.”

“Silence is the stage where responsibility grows, emotions subside, and words can be chosen with care rather than impulsivity,” he concluded.

According to the Police Station Bhawan, located at Vaishno Devi, the accused has been identified as Mast Ali, son of Nazir Ahmed and a resident of Harot Kot village in Surjan Dhar, Reasi district.

He was caught posing as a “Pithu (porter),” which the police said violated the orders issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) office. The United States on Sunday called on India and Pakistan to pursue a “responsible solution” amid rising tensions between the two nations following the deadly April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

“This is an evolving situation, and we are monitoring developments closely. We have been in contact with the governments of both India and Pakistan at multiple levels,” a U.S. State Department spokesperson said in an emailed statement to Reuters.

I’m here because I suffered, and we were singled out for the faith that we followed. My grandfather was targeted and was shot. He was targeted because he was a Hindu as well. April 22 brought back a lot of nightmares. We Kashmiri Hindus are facing the same and reliving the horrific incidents that happened over the decades with us.

We were asked to either convert to Islam, run away, or be ready to die. Around four hundred thousand plus Kashmiri Hindus fled their homes overnight. I am here speaking on behalf of all Kashmiri Hindus who are still facing all the false narratives that are being spread. We are still being asked to prove that it actually happened to us. Our heart bleeds, our eyes have dried up crying, honestly.

April 22nd should never have happened. It’s a slap on the face of humanity. Islamic terrorism has to stop. People need to understand, acknowledge, and respect all faiths. Nobody should die because of the faith that they follow, and that’s why I’m here, trying to raise awareness and bring the facts and the truth to light… Innocent people caught in a fire. It’s not that people were asked to prove their identity, their religious beliefs, before they were shot at point-blank range.

As many as 509 Pakistani nationals exited India via the Attari integrated check post between April 25 and 27, while 744 Indian nationals returned from Pakistan via Wagah in the same period.

On April 24, India revoked all valid visas issued to Pakistani citizens, barring diplomatic and official visas and long-term visas, as part of a diplomatic offensive launched after the initial probe into the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people were killed, pointed to the role of Pakistani terrorists and terror masterminds.

Pahalgam Terror Attack Live: Karnataka minister calls Pahalgam widow’s claim ‘mental fog’

A day after dismissing as ‘mental fog’ a Pahalgam attack widow’s eyewitness account of terrorists asking her husband’s religion before shooting him dead, Karnataka excise minister RB Timmapur made a dramatic U-turn on Sunday. “It’s claimed that terrorists checked the religion of their victims. If it is true, how could a Muslim person also die in the attack? It’s just BJP’s conspiracy of politicising deaths,” Timmapur told reporters on Saturday.

The required war on terrorism should not make innocent Kashmiris collateral damage, Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, and People’s Conference chief Sajad Lone have warned amid a massive crackdown on terrorists, including demolition of their family homes, in the Pahalgam attack aftermath.

“Punish the guilty, show them no mercy, but don’t let innocent people become collateral damage… There must be a decisive fight against terrorism and its origins. The people of Kashmir have come out openly against terrorism. It’s time to build on this support and avoid any misplaced action that alienates people,” Omar said.

China supports an impartial investigation as soon as possible, as the conflict is not in the fundamental interests of India and Pakistan, nor is it conducive to regional peace and stability. It is hoped that the two sides will exercise restraint, move towards each other and push for a cooling of the situation.

Hundreds of Indian-origin supporters gathered Sunday outside the Indian high commission in London, overwhelming a small protest organised by British Pakistanis aimed at “rejecting Indian propaganda” following the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack that left 26 people dead, mostly tourists.

While about 50 people turned up for the Pakistan protest opposite the high commission, hundreds of PIOs (persons of Indian origin) filled the area in front of the mission building. The Indian side, separated by police barricades, displayed a massive Tricolour on the building and used a loudspeaker to outvoice the Pakistani protesters, singing the national anthem and chanting “Jai Shri Ram”, “Vande Mataram”, and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. Some could be seen shaking water bottles.

A civilian was shot dead by unknown gunmen late Saturday during a power outage in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, four days after terrorists killed 26 people in a meadow near the resort town of Pahalgam.

Officials said Ghulam Rasool Magray, 45, was shot outside his home in Kandi Khas around 10.30pm. Suspected terrorists entered the residence, took him outside, and opened fire, critically wounding him, police said. Locals took him to a hospital in Srinagar, but he died around 2am.

Hundreds of people from all walks of life joined the candlelight march held at MG Marg.

“We stand hand in hand with the people of the country in this time of distress. Our government will support the Centre in all ways to combat terrorism,” Tamang said at the programme.

“Today’s programme was to show respect to the people who died in the dastardly attack, and also to tell the people of the country and the Centre that Sikkim stands with them at this time of sorrow,” he added.

Tamang said that if the time comes, people of Sikkim will give their lives for the country.

“The unwavering patriotism and resilience of border residents are truly commendable. Despite facing hostile circumstances, they continue to hold the national flag high, showcasing their unshakeable commitment to the nation’s unity and integrity,” Jasrotia said.

Pahalgam Terror Attack Live: Dehradun youth arrested for uploading ‘objectionable’ post on demolition of mazar, Pahalgam attack

A youth was arrested for allegedly uploading a poster on social media on the Pahalgam terror attack and the demolition of a ‘mazar’ inside Government Doon Hospital, Dehradun carried out by the local administration, officials said. The youth allegedly threatened to demolish a temple in a Facebook post and is accused of making an “objectionable” remark against the Pahalgam attack in which terrorists killed 26 people.

Police registered a case in the matter and one Sahil Khan was arrested on Saturday. Khan, a resident of Nehru Colony, Dehradun, works as an auto driver.

Police said the ‘mazar’ was razed because it was an “illegal” construction. The city administration demolished the structure using two JCB excavators on Friday night in the presence of police after sealing the area.

The Uttarakhand Waqf Board, however, claimed that the ‘mazar’ was “100 years old” and was a legal structure.

Police said some people are circulating videos of the demolition on social media, which they said “may spoil the social harmony”.

Officials said police are constantly monitoring social media to identify those who are circulating such videos and warned that strict action will be taken against them.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken charge of the investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead, officials confirmed on Sunday. Senior officers, including an Inspector General, a Deputy Inspector General, and a Superintendent of Police, are leading teams at the scene.

Eyewitnesses are being questioned extensively to reconstruct the sequence of events behind one of the deadliest attacks in Kashmir in recent years. Investigators are meticulously examining entry and exit points at Baisaran valley, where the attack occurred last Tuesday, to understand the terrorists’ movements and tactics.

Supported by forensic experts, NIA teams have been combing the area since Wednesday, intensifying the search for crucial evidence. Officials said the agency is determined to uncover the full terror conspiracy behind the attack, which has sent shockwaves across the nation.

Pahalgam Terror Attack Live: Pahalgam attack reflects government’s failure, says Akhilesh Yadav

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday blamed “intelligence failure” for the Pahalgam terror attack and accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of prioritising “propaganda” over addressing critical issues. He demanded Rs 10crore financial assistance and a government job for the families of each of the victims of the terrorist attack.

“The big question is how did the terrorists reach our home.. This is a failure of the government. It was the result of intelligence failure.

“There were no proper security arrangements and forces could not reach there. Now people are also talking about Pulwama with Pahalgam,” he said at a press conference.

Raising the issue of unemployment, he alleged that the government was failing to provide adequate job opportunities which was depriving the marginalised sections the benefit of reservations.

“The Bharatiya Janata Party government is continuously working on propaganda. We also have to remember that our issues are still unemployment,” Yadav told reporters at the party headquarters after a meeting of the SP’s youth wing.

Pakistan has called for the intervention of Russia, China and or other “Western countries” seeking an investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people. Pakistan also questioned the basis on which India accused the neighbouring nation of being involved in the attack that led to suspension of Indus Water Treaty and cutting off trade ties and closing of borders.

“I think Russia or China or even Western countries can play a very, very positive role in this crisis and they can even set up an investigation team that should be assigned this job to investigate whether India or Modi is lying or he is telling the truth. Let an international team find out,” Pakistani defence minister Khawaja Asif told Russian government-run RIA Novosti news agency.

China has expressed its support for Pakistan, its “all-weather strategic cooperative partner”, and advocated for an “impartial probe” into the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 25 Indians and one Nepalese citizen on April 22.

In a phone call with Pakistan deputy PM Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Sunday, Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi said that the country was “closely following the evolving situation” between the two nations after the bilateral relations hit a rock bottom with India cutting off trade, treaty and border ties with its neighbour.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally taken over the probe into the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, officials said on Sunday. Acting on directions from the Union ministry of home affairs, the NIA has deployed multiple teams led by an Inspector General, a Deputy Inspector General, and a Superintendent of Police to investigate the case.

The attack occurred last Tuesday at Baisaran valley, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. Terrorists opened fire on civilians, many of whom were holidaymakers from other states, in one of the deadliest attacks the region has witnessed.

Eyewitnesses are being extensively questioned to reconstruct the sequence of events. Investigators are also examining entry and exit points around the site to uncover the terrorists’ modus operandi.

Forensic and technical experts are assisting NIA teams, who have been camping at the scene since Wednesday, in a thorough search for evidence. Officials said the agency is committed to exposing the full conspiracy behind the attack that has deeply shocked the nation.
