Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid wreaths on the bodies of 26 people killed in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, and assured the survivors that the perpetrators of the dastardly act would be brought to justice. As per officials, Shah laid the wreaths on the coffins of the victims of the terror attack at the Police Control Room in Srinagar. The incident shattered the calm of one of Kashmir’s most picturesque destinations, often referred to as the “mini-Switzerland” of India.
The ghastly attack occurred in the remote high-altitude region of the Anantnag district — a spot only reachable by trekking or horseback. The terrain made immediate rescue operations a logistical nightmare but helicopters were scrambled for aerial evacuation, while brave local residents stepped up with ponies to carry the injured down the steep trails. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed for India on Tuesday night after cutting short his two-day visit to Saudi Arabia in the wake of the deadly incident.
In a significant step forward in the investigation of the Pahalgam terror attack, security agencies have released sketches of three terrorists believed to be behind the brutal assault that claimed the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists, and left several others injured. As per sources, the sketches have been prepared based on inputs from eyewitnesses and initial intelligence collected from the scene of the attack.
A day after the deadly Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached the incident site to take stock of the situation. The Home Minister earlier interacted with families of the slain persons and other survivors of the attack.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar this morning and personally met with the families of those who lost their lives in the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives and left several injured. SSP Sandeep Mehta says, “After yesterday’s event, we have made tight security arrangements… Since emotions are running high in the wake of the incident, I request everyone to think carefully before saying anything. Communal feelings should not be encouraged that could hurt the sentiments of a particular community. Everything is peaceful here as of now.”
AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi says, “Terrorists killed innocent people after asking their religion in Pahalgam. We strongly condemn this incident. We hope that the government will teach a lesson to these terrorists. We are standing in solidarity with the affected families and pray that those injured get well soon.
Secondly, this is also an intelligence failure, and the Narendra Modi government should recheck its deterrence policy. This incident is more condemnable than Uri and Pulwama because these terrorists, who have come from the neighbouring country, have targeted civilians, tourists. We demand the Modi government to fix accountability.”
A fresh infiltration attempt was foiled along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday, the Indian Army confirmed, as security remains heightened across northern states following Tuesday’s deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. In the course of the operation, two terrorists were gunned down, and weapons carried by the infiltrators were recovered. A Pakistani infiltration attempt was foiled, with the terrorists having attempted to cross over under the cover of the Pakistani Army.
