Nepal Protests Live Updates: Meeting on Nepal’s interim leader, parliament dissolution delayed till 2 pm

Nepal Gen Z Protest Live: As Nepal slowly returns to normalcy, after days of violent protests led by Gen Z, the discussions about who will take charge of the nation have taken the centre stage. With the Nepal Army having imposed nationwide restrictions, names such as former Chief Justice Sushila Karki, Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah, and former electricity board CEO Kulman Ghising are reportedly being considered to lead an interim government.
The total number of prisoners who escaped from a Nepal jail and were arrested along the India-Nepal border has now reached 67. In the last 24 hours alone, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has arrested 32 more fugitives. Among those arrested is a woman.

The meeting that was scheduled to start at 9 am today to decide on the interim government, has been postponed till 2 pm.

The President’s Office cited ongoing preparations as the reason for the delay.

The meeting was to focus on the formation of the interim government and the possible dissolution of Parliament. No consensus was reached during last night’s discussions, which continued until 3 am.

Sheetal Niwas, the official residence of the President, has now become the centre of political activity, replacing the Army Headquarters as the focal point.

Further developments are expected once the meeting resumes at 2 pm.

After two days of intense efforts, the Andhra Pradesh government has successfully completed a large-scale evacuation mission to rescue Telugus stranded across multiple locations in Nepal.

A total of 154 citizens were brought back on an Indigo special flight that landed in Visakhapatnam on Thursday night. The flight had departed from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, dropping 114 passengers in Visakhapatnam before continuing to Tirupati with the remaining 40 evacuees.

The rescue operation was led and closely monitored by Andhra Pradesh RTGS Minister Nara Lokesh. He coordinated efforts with the Ministry of External Affairs, A P Bhavan in New Delhi, and field teams to ensure all citizens were brought home safely.

Amid growing political uncertainty in Nepal, former King Gyanendra Bikram Shah has issued a statement, saying, “No system or ideology is greater than civic freedom.”

His remarks come at a time when discussions around parliamentary dissolution, an interim government, and even monarchy-related rumors are dominating public discourse.
