Israeli forces killed at least 19 people in early morning attacks, Gaza’s Civil Defence said, after killing 24 Palestinians across Gaza on Sunday. The UN and humanitarian groups decried a ‘dangerous’ Israeli ‘scheme’ they said would deliver ‘rations’ in ‘militarised zones’. The proposal comes as Israel has blocked all food deliveries for nine weeks.
The Houthis said they would continue to target Israel’s Ben Gurion airport in response to Israel expanding its “aggressive” war on Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel would respond to both the Houthis and Iran. Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 52,535 Palestinians and wounded 118,491, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. The Government Media Office updated the death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead.
An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023, and more than 200 were taken captive. We are getting reports that Israeli forces also stormed another area near the city of Nablus. During the military operation, a young man was arrested by Israeli forces in the city’s Askar al-Jadid refugee camp. Earlier, we reported that several people were detained following a series of raids across the Palestinian territory.
Israel says Israel’s war cabinet has also approved plans that would see Israel try to change how aid is delivered in Gaza, alongside expanding its ground invasion. Citing an unnamed Israeli official, The Times of Israel said the plan would involve “international organisations and private security contractors [handing] out boxes of food to individual” families in Gaza.
Israeli soldiers would provide “an outer layer of security for the private contractors and international organisations handing out the assistance”, The Times of Israel said.
As we reported earlier, a coordinating group of UN and other humanitarian organisations issued a statement rejecting a “dangerous” Israeli plan that had been presented to them, which proposed “driving civilians into militarised zones to collect rations”.
