India-Pakistan tensions: Indian Army begins restoring decades-old bunkers along international border

In the wake of the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians on April 22, tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a new high. The brutal incident, which took place in Jammu and Kashmir, has triggered heightened security responses across the nation. Taking serious note of the escalating threat, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued directives to several states, urging them to conduct large-scale civil defence mock drills on May 7.

These drills are aimed at assessing the country’s preparedness in case of a hostile attack and at the same time raising awareness among the public. Meanwhile, United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres has called for “maximum restraint,” saying that a “military solution is no solution.” Condemning the attack, Guterres expressed grief over the relation between both countries reaching to a “boiling” point.

Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Army has begun restoring decades-old bunkers located close to the international border. These fortified shelters, which were actively used during the 1965 and 1971 wars, are being cleaned and made battle-ready once again, sources said.

The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) is set to convene a crucial meeting this evening, with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena scheduled to preside over the session, sources said. The meeting will primarily focus on finalising the action plan for the upcoming nationwide mock drill scheduled for May 7.

In a key development ahead of the nationwide Civil Defence preparedness exercise, several senior officials, including the Director General of Civil Defence and the Director General of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), arrived at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in Delhi today. The high-level meeting was convened by Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan to finalise arrangements for the large-scale mock drills scheduled across the country on May 7.

An air raid siren mock drill was conducted near the iconic Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir’s Srinagar today. The exercisesaw saw loud sirens echoing through the area as part of a simulated emergency response. The drill aimed to assess the readiness of local authorities and security forces in handling high-alert situations, especially in the wake of rising cross-border tensions in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.

In a major diplomatic snub to Pakistan, members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) raised sharp and uncomfortable questions during a closed-door session on Kashmir, sources revealed. Pakistan’s attempt to float the “false flag” narrative was firmly rejected by several members, who instead questioned the possible involvement of terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the recent attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

Security has been significantly intensified in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch and Rajouri districts following the recent surge in tensions with Pakistan, triggered by the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 innocent civilians dead on April 22. Fresh visuals from the region show security forces actively checking vehicles and conducting thorough inspections across key routes.

In a major breakthrough against ISI-backed cross-border terror networks, the Special State Operations Cell (SSOC) Amritsar, in coordination with a central intelligence agency, has recovered a large cache of terrorist hardware in Punjab. The joint operation, guided by specific intelligence inputs, was carried out in a densely forested area near Tibba Nangal–Kular Road in SBS Nagar.
