India-Pakistan ceasefire LIVE: Both countries to hold DGMO level talks today

The Indian Army on Monday said the previous night remained largely peaceful across Jammu & Kashmir and other areas along the International Border, and no incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days.

Directors General from the three services addressed a press conference on Sunday (May 11, 2025) regarding Operation Sindoor and said that over 100 terrorists were killed, including those involved in the IC 814 hijacking and the Pulwama blasts. They also said that nine terror hubs in Pakistan were hit.

After three days of intense military hostilities,India and Pakistan reached an “understanding” about stopping “military action” and “firing”, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Saturday (May 10, 2025). Soon after the cessation of firing and military action between India and Pakistan was announced on Saturday (May 10, 2025) evening, cross-border firing from Pakistan was reported at several locations along the Jammu border, a Border Security Force (BSF) official said.

Delhi airport on Monday said operations are currently smooth but some flight schedules and security checkpoint processing time might be affected.

Around 100 flights to and from Delhi airport were cancelled on Sunday.

Security measures were enhanced and at least 32 airports in northern and western parts of the country were temporarily shut in view of the conflict between India and Pakistan.

In a post on X on Monday, DIAL said the airport operations are currently smooth.

“However, due to changing airspace conditions and increased security measures, some flight schedules and security checkpoint processing times may be affected,” it said.

Earlier on Sunday, Director General Military Operations (DGMO) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai apprised about his conversation with his counterpart, which resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by both the neighbouring countries, saying that the Pakistan army violated these understandings after a couple of hours after the cessation of hostilities.

“My communication with the Pak DGMO was conducted at 15:35 hrs yesterday and resulted in cessation of cross-border firing and air intrusions by either side with effect from 17:00 hrs, May 10, after he proposed that we cease hostilities. We also decided to further speak on May 12 at 12:00 hrs to discuss the modalities that would enable the longevity of this understanding,” Mr. Ghai told reporters in a press conference.

The BJP and the Congress in Manipur on Monday condoled the death of BSF constable Deepak Chingakham, who was killed in action after Pakistan initiated cross-border firing in the Jammu region on May 10.

Chimngakham of Manipur was among the eight BSF personnel injured in the cross-border shelling along the international border in J&K’s R.S. Pura Sector, and he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.

BJP State president Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi said, “We are deeply saddened by the loss of constable (GD) Deepak Chingakham of the Border Security Force, who made the ultimate sacrifice while bravely serving the nation during cross-border firing in the R.S. Pura sector.” She also said Chingakham was a proud son of Manipur, and his courage and devotion reflect the unwavering spirit and commitment of the Manipuri people.

“We honour his bravery and stand with his family and comrades in this time of grief. His sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the State BJP chief said on X.

Congress president Keisham Meghachandra extended his condolences to the bereaved family.

Keisham said, “The people of Manipur, and indeed the entire nation, are proud of his bravery and commitment. We will remember him for his supreme sacrifice for our motherland. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and fellow soldiers.

May the Almighty grant them strength during this time of immense grief.” The BSF director general and all ranks expressed their deepest condolences to his family. Stock Markets open on a high note, Sensex up over 2.3% as clarity emerged on the war from last evening’s briefing by armed forces.

Also the trade deal announcement between U.S. and U.K. and reports that U.S. and Chinese officials meeting in Switzerland on the weekend for trade discussions, paved the way for broader negotiations and tariff de-escalation, supported investor sentiment.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who faced trolling on social media in the wake of India and Pakistan reaching an understanding on May 10 to halt all military actions, received support from veteran diplomat Nirupama Menon Rao and politicians Asaduddin Owaisi and Akhilesh Yadav.

Samajwadi Party chief Mr. Yadav wrote a long post on X in Hindi and said, such statements break the morale of honest officers who work day and night dedicated to the country.

Former foreign secretary Nirupama Menon called the trolling of the senior diplomat “utterly shameful” and said it “crosses every line of decency” “It’s utterly shameful to troll Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and his family over the India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement. A dedicated diplomat, Misri has served India with professionalism and resolve, and there is no ground whatsoever for his vilification.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Mr. Owaisi also came out strongly in support of Misri on Sunday.

“Mr Vikram Misri is a decent, honest, hard-working diplomat working tirelessly for our nation. Our civil servants work under the executive this must be remembered & they shouldn’t be blamed for the decisions taken by the executive or any political leadership running Watan E Aziz,” he posted on X.

The night remained largely peaceful across Jammu & Kashmir and other areas along the International Border. No incidents have been reported, marking the first calm night in recent days, the Indian Army said on Monday.
