The White House said Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and senior envoy Steve Witkoff had left for Egypt to start ceasefire talks, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu voiced hope of securing the release of all remaining hostages soon.
Gaza Peace Plan Live Updates: The Hamas delegation reached Egypt late on Sunday to hold negotiations with the Israeli delegation, which is set to arrive today, in order to finalise a ceasefire deal as US President Donald Trump urged mediators involved in the efforts to to “move fast” in order to end the Gaza war. Earlier, Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and senior envoy Steve Witkoff left for Egypt to begin ceasefire talks, the White House said, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed hope of bringing all remaining hostages home in the coming days, reported The Guardian. Meanwhile, the Israeli military on Friday escorted international journalists through parts of Gaza City, offering a rare, tightly controlled look at the devastated area that has been at the centre of Israel’s latest offensive to root out Hamas, AP reported.
Trump warns Hamas to ‘move quickly’ on peace deal: After Hamas said it had accepted parts of Trump’s proposal, the US president warned on Truth Social: “Hamas must move quickly, or else all bets will be off.” He added, “I will not tolerate delay, which many think will happen, or any outcome where Gaza poses a threat again. Let’s get this done, FAST.” Hamas said it agreed to relinquish power and release all remaining hostages, but that other aspects of the plan required further consultations among Palestinians, according to AP. Israel earlier accepted the plan after it was unveiled, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
