Mumbai Rain Updates: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall, High Tide Of 4.40 Metres
Mumbai, the financial capital of India, and its suburbs experienced heavy overnight rainfall, resulting in widespread waterlogging, diversion of BEST buses and cancellation of several trains on Monday, July 8. Suburban train services, especially those of the Central Railway, were running slowly.
The Pune-Mumbai Deccan Queen, one of the premier trains between the two cities, was also cancelled for the day due to the heavy rain.
Mumbai rain: Following trains stand cancelled:
1) 12110 (MMR-CSMT)
2) 11010 (PUNE-CSMT)
3) 12124 (PUNE CSMT DECCAN)
4) 11007 (PUNE-CSMT DECCAN)
5) 12127 (CSMT-PUNE INTERCITY EXPRESS)
Train services, however, resumed on the Central Line at Sion and Bhandup stations after rainwater has receded.
Due to waterlogging triggered by rain in Mumbai, many BEST buses diverted from their regular route, said the bus transport.
Heavy rains lashed Mumbai city and surrounding areas on July 8 morning from 1 am to 7 am. Heavy rains in some low-lying areas led to waterlogging and disruption of suburban train services.
Local train services on the Central Railway routes were severely hit while various roads in Mumbai were waterlogged after some areas recorded more than 300 mm rainfall overnight, officials said.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a statement issued in the morning said heavy rain is also expected on July 8.
Suburban services of the Central Railway were severely affected due to waterlogging of tracks on both the Main and Harbour corridors, authorities said.
The civic body’s disaster management department said suburban services on both the CR corridors resumed operation at 6.45 am.
The highest 315 rainfall in this period was recorded in Govandi area and 314 mm in Powai area, it said.
Maharashtra Assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar adjourned the House till 1 p.m. in view of several MLAs and ministers unable to reach the legislature complex in south Mumbai due to heavy rains.
As soon as the House assembled for the day at 11 a.m., Leader of Opposition Vijay Wadettiwar highlighted the problems being faced by people in Mumbai due to the heavy rains.
The Congress leader claimed pre-monsoon preparedness was lacking despite crores of rupees being spent.
