While 25-year-old Vaidehi Dongre of Michigan has been crowned Miss India USA in 2021, Georgia’s Arshi Lalani came second. Dongre graduated from the University of Michigan in International Studies. He has worked in many places as Business Development Manager. Vaidehi has also won the ‘Miss Talented’ award in the Indian classical dance Kathak. “I want to leave a positive impact on my community and focus on women’s financial independence and literacy,” Vaidehi said.
The chief guest and chief justice of the contest was Diana Hayden, who was Miss World in 1997. Arshi Lalani, 20, who is suffering from a brain tumor, stunned everyone with her performance and confidence. Arshi Lalani stood second. Meera Kasari of North Carolina finished third.
61 contestants from 30 states participated in three separate contests namely Miss India USA, Mrs. India USA, and Miss Teen India USA. All the contestants were given tickets to Mumbai to participate in all three competitions.
Miss India USA was started by Dharmatma and Neelam Saran about 40 years back under the banner of the India Festival Committee. This competition has been going on since 1980. Miss India USA is the longest-running Indian pageant outside India. Miss India USA is an Indian beauty pageant held outside India every year.
Kim Kumari of New Jersey won the Miss India-USA title in February 2019. Then 75 contestants from 26 states participated in the competition. The chief guest of this competition was actress Meenakshi Seshadri.
