Columbia, AP. Some terrorists have attacked the helicopter of Colombian President Ivan Duque. No one has died in this attack. The attack happened when Colombian President Ivan Duque was flying near the Venezuelan border.
President Ivan Duque, Defense Minister Diego Molano, Interior Minister Daniel Palacios, and Norte de Santander state governor were in the helicopter during the attack. A video released by the presidency showed several shots fired at a Colombian Air Force helicopter. President Duke attended an event called “Peace with Legality, the Sustainable Catatumbo Chapter”. After which this incident happened.
In Catatumbo, near the city of Cucuta, the presidential helicopter was attacked, it said in a statement. He said everyone aboard the helicopter was safe, including himself, Defense Minister Diego Molano, Interior Minister Daniele Palacios, and Norte de Santander state governor Silvano Serrano.
The President further said that the equipment and capabilities of the helicopter prevented something fatal from happening. The Duke did not specify the time of the attack nor who carried it out. But many terrorist organizations in this area are known for doing such things.
Describing the attack as “cowardly”, the President said that we will not stop fighting drug trafficking, terrorism, and organized crime.
Such attacks are not new in Colombia. Earlier on June 14, the military base was also attacked with a car bomb. In which 36 people were injured including both the army and civilians.
Colombian officials have not confirmed who is behind the attack. Colombian security forces have been ordered to find those responsible for the attack.
