On Thursday, a man of South Asian descent was wounded and wounded in a Chinatown in New York. On January 31, a 19-year-old attacker killed an 84-year-old man in Silicon Valley. There has been a flood of such cases in the US for the past year. Between March and December 2020, there have been more than three thousand attacks on South Asians.
In New York alone, attacks have increased 10 times compared to 2019. Most victims of these attacks are people of China, Taiwan, and Thailand origin. Experts say former President Donald Trump blamed China for Corona. Since then, attacks on people of Chinese origin have increased. It was only when the epidemic began to escalate that the FBI warned that there could be attacks on China and Asians.
Rally against attacks
A rally was held in New York on Saturday to protest against the attacks. Lucy Ching, a member of the Asian American Community (Chinese Organization) in New York, said the city has not seen such violence against migrants. These attacks are reminiscent of the situation arising after the 9/11 terror attacks. New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said such attacks are an injustice to immigrants. Blasio also supported the rally. The leader of the migrants will hold a meeting with the mayor to stop the attack.
A quarter of the attacks occurred in the Bay Area
Asian Pacific Policy- Planning Council has launched a campaign against crime. Under this, launched a webpage named NYC.Gov/StopAsianHate. According to the council, more than a quarter of the attacks occurred in the Bay Area of San Francisco, a hub of people of Chinese descent. One-third of American Chinese Americans live in this area. In the last two months, 32 people have been attacked and looted here.
Biden ordered to stop such attacks
The White House has taken steps to rein in the escalating attacks. House Press Secretary Jane Saki reported that President Joe Biden said in an order that crime and racial violence are not acceptable in the United States with Chinese and people from the Pacific continent. The Health Department has been told not to talk about this category when they discuss the epidemic, doing so would come under the category of crime.
