The Australian government has been surrounded by a law made on Covid. There is opposition from the government all around. In fact, after the tsunami of Corona in India, like other countries, Australia also closed its borders to India. Banned flights to and from India till 15 May.
Even so, all was well, but on 30 April the government enacted a law under the Bio-Security Act of 2015 that if any Australian citizen or resident currently living in India tried to enter Australia through another country, then He will have to pay a 5-year sentence or a fine of 66,000 Australian dollars (about 37.5 lakh rupees). Now the Australia Medical Association has written a letter to Prime Minister Scott Morrison, objecting to this law.
According to the association’s president, Dr. Omar Khurshid, about 9,000 Australians stranded in India are in great danger. They are at risk of infection. In such a situation, the government should save them by bringing them back somehow. Leader of the Opposition Anthony LBC has accused the Morrison government of racism. According to him, most of the Australian nationals stranded in India are of Indian origin and have been struggling to return for a year. There are more than 37 thousand Australians stranded all over the world right now.
At the same time, Prime Minister Morrison has said that this step has been taken on the advice of medical experts. But Australia’s Chief Medical Officer, Paul Kelly, himself exposed the claim. According to him, he did not give any such advice to the government that he should imprison Australians coming from India. There is also a lot of anger among the Indian community about this decision of the Australian Government. The President of the Indian Australian Strategic Alliance, Dr. Jagvinder Singh Virk, has described the government’s decision as devastating.
