A major revelation has been made in the case of the attack on the Iranian army ship Savitz, standing to help the Houthi rebels in Yemen. It is being told that this attack was carried out by the special forces of the Israeli army. The ship is believed to be similar to a naval base used by Iran to aid the Houthi rebels operating in Yemen and strategically monitored in the crucial Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
According to a report by The Times London, this action has been carried out by the Special Forces of Israel. Israel had earlier alleged that Iran had targeted one of its merchant ships. The attack comes at a time when the US and Iran are negotiating Tehran’s nuclear program indirectly for the first time. Israeli troops are said to have targeted Iranian ships using sea tunnels.
No crew members injured in the blast: Iran
The Iranian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Wednesday that officials were looking into an explosion in the Red Sea in which their ship was moderately damaged. The DPA news agency quoted local media as saying that Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that none of the crew members were injured in the blast that occurred on Tuesday night. He, however, did not comment on reports that Israel had attacked the ship.
The New York Times quoted an unnamed American representative as saying that Israel had informed the US that its forces had attacked the ship in response to previous Iranian attacks on Israeli ships. In March, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blamed Iran for the explosion on an Israeli company’s cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman. A spokesman for the Israeli military said the military does not comment on foreign media reports.
Landmines were installed near the hull of the Iranian ship
Iran’s Tasnim news agency originally reported the ship exploding and damaging it. According to the US website GlobalSecurity.com Organization, the damaged cargo is used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. It is being told that landmines were installed near the hull of this ship which was submerged underwater. Flames and smoke bolls were seen as a result of the explosion.
