Beijing: People were partying birthdays at a restaurant in Shanxi Province of China (China) on Saturday. In the meantime, the two-storied restaurant collapsed. The 80-year-old man was killed and 28 others injured at the birth-day party.

This information was given by a local official. According to China’s Ministry of Emergency Management, the incident occurred at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday when a family member and villagers gathered at the Juxian restaurant in Chenzhouang Village in Jiangfen County to attend the birthday party of an 80-year-old man.

Relief and rescue operations were completed on Sunday morning, he said. A total of 57 people have been evacuated from the debris of a two-storied restaurant, officials said.

At least 29 people have been killed and seven others seriously injured in the incident, reports the official news committee Shenhua said. 21 others sustained minor injuries in the incident.

The work safety committee of China’s State Council will investigate the restaurant collapse incident. This information was given by the Committee in a statement. The committee demanded that Shanxi’s provincial government investigate the incident immediately.

Let me tell you that China has seen major improvements in industrial safety. However, building standards are sometimes ignored. Especially in rural areas such as Xiangfen County in Shanxi Province, about 630 kilometers (400 miles) southwest of Beijing, where the restaurant was located. The region is in the center of China’s coal country, where thousands of miners have died in explosions, collapses, and floods over the past years.
