China has built the world’s largest navy to compete with the US. Currently, the US Navy does not have as many warships and submarines as there are in the Chinese Navy (PLAN). It is a different matter that despite the Chinese Navy had such a large number of weapons, their firepower and combat capability are much less than many countries of the world. Chinese President Xi Jinping has claimed many times in his speeches that his military’s purpose is not to attack a country.
In such a situation, the question arises then why is China increasing its naval strength so fast? The day of 2018 is still remembered when a warship of the Chinese Navy, ie, the People’s Liberation Army Navy, was questioned by Chinese President Xi Jinping who demonstrated his strategic strength in the South China Sea. This maneuver involved 48 warships, dozens of fighter aircraft, and more than 10000 navies at one time. Xi Jinping, who became China’s second most powerful leader after Mao Tse Tung, is going to provide the Chinese Navy with a force that will showcase China’s greatness and power in the world’s seven oceans.
China has surpassed the US in naval strength since 2015
China is currently rapidly building warships and submarines for its navy. Seven of China’s 62 submarines are powered by nuclear power. In such a situation, it does not have to spend as much as conventional fuel anymore. China was already proficient in the art of shipbuilding. In 2015, the Chinese Navy launched a massive campaign to equalize its strength with the US Navy.
The work of converting the PLA into a world-class fighting force continues even today. Jinping ordered an investment in the shipyard and technology in 2015. He had said then that we felt the need to build a powerful navy which had never happened before. It is evident that since getting the command of the Supreme Commander, the Chinese Navy has increased its strength manifold in the last 5-6 years. In such a situation, it is not only a threat to America but also an issue raising the concerns of peace and law-abiding countries in the region. China claims the bulk of the South China Sea. It has also tangled with Vietnam, Taiwan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
By 2025, the Chinese Navy will have 400 Battle Force ships
According to the US Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), in 2015 the People’s Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) fleet had 255 Battle Force ships. By the year 2020, the total number of battle force ships with the Chinese Navy increased to 360, which is 60 more than the total ship of the US Navy. ONI has predicted that China will have a total of 400 Battle Force ships by 2025, four years from today.
Even after building the world’s largest navy, China’s hunger has not subsided. He is also currently building modern warships, submarines, aircraft carriers, fighter aircraft, amphibious assault ships, ballistic nuclear attack submarines, many modern patrol vessels for the Coast Guard, and polar icebreaker ships at an alarming pace. In such a situation, it is being hoped that in the coming days the strength of the Chinese Navy is going to increase further, due to which it will have its presence in every corner of the world.
Many warships of China are stronger than America
Andrew Erickson, a professor at the US Maritime Studies Institute of the US Naval War College, wrote in his research paper published on February 1 that the Chinese Navy is not getting any junk from China’s shipbuilding industry, but rather fast. At speed, sophisticated warfare ships equipped with modern technologies are being found. They also include the Type 055 Destroyer. Which, according to some analysts, is many times more powerful in terms of firepower than American Ticoderoga-class cruisers. China’s Amphibious Ship can deliver thousands of Chinese troops to enemy countries’ seabed in minutes.
In such a situation, it is a threat to those countries which have a maritime dispute with China. Taiwan is currently the biggest thorn in China’s eyes. The head of the US Army’s Pacific Command itself has predicted that China can attack Taiwan anytime in the coming 3 to 4 years. This would be such an attempt to change the status quo, which the world would not be able to change even if it wanted to. In such a situation, it is feared that once China takes over Taiwan, it will not back down at any cost.
Where does America stand in terms of naval strength?
While China is working on a plan to include a total of 400 Battle Force ships in its navy by the year 2025, the US Navy does not seem to be particularly active about it. Shipbuilding agencies for the US Navy have set a target of building a 355 Battle Force Ship for the future, although they have not set a specific deadline to meet it. The US Navy currently has a total of 297 400 Battle Force Ships. If we talk about the Marines, then the US position is very heavy here. The US Navy has a total of 330,000 active duty navies, while China has about 250,000 of them.
