Actor Rhea Chakraborty’s Judicial Custody Extended Till October 6, Moves Bombay HC for Bail

Rhea and her brother Showik’s judicial custody has been extended till October 6 by a Special court in Mumbai. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had arrested Showik Chakraborty on September 4. Rhea was arrested by the NCB on September 8 for alleged procurement of medicine. She was then taken to Byculla jail in Mumbai the next day. Till currently 18 peoples, together with Sushant Singh Rajput’s manager Samuel Miranda and cook Dipesh Sawant, have been arrested by the NCB.

According to news agency ANI, Chakraborty and Showik moved bail applications within the Bombay High Court in connection with the drug case related to Rajput’s death. Her lawyer Satish Manshinde said the matter can come up for hearing on Wednesday and the main points of the applying will be shared once the hearing, ANI added.

The special court had rejected the bail plea of Rhea, her brother Showik, Sushant’s house staff Samuel Miranda and cook Dipesh Sawant. Two others whose bail pleas were rejected were Zaid Vilatra and Abdel Basit Parihar, from whom the opposite accused allegedly brought drugs.

The 28-year-old was arrested on the basis of statements from other accused who are arrested in connection with the case. She was confronted with Showik, Rajput’s house manager Samuel Miranda and his house staff Dipesh Sawant to ascertain their roles in an alleged drug racket.

Chakraborty has been charged below Section 8(c) (manufacture, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import); 20(b)(ii) (punishment for contravention in relation to the cannabis plant and cannabis where such contravention relates to small quantity, involves amount lesser than business amount but greater than little amount, involves business quantity); 22 (punishment for contravention in relation to psychotropic substances); 27A (punishment for financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders); 28 (punishment for makes an attempt to commit offences); and 29 (punishment for abetment and criminal conspiracy) of the NDPS act.

The Narcotics Control Bureau got concerned within the Sushant Singh Rajput death case when Rhea Chakraborty’s WhatsApp chats with Jaya Saha were retrieved by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED, while probing the money-laundering angle within the case, accessed the chats in that there was a mention of drugs. The ED then asked the NCB to probe the drug angle within the case.

The NCB investigation has led to many arrests being made. Ten drug peddlers have also been arrested by the NCB who allegedly equipped medication to numerous Bollywood celebrities.

Yesterday (September 21), the NCB had questioned Jaya Saha, Sushant Singh Rajput’s talent manager, about her involvement in supplying medication to celebrities. Jaya Saha’s questioning can continue these days. Sushant’s manager, Shruti Modi can additionally be questioned by the NCB today.

Moreover, Zaid Vilatra, another accused in the case on September twelve had moved criminal application before HC challenging special Court order and sought to be released on bail. On Monday, once NCB sought to file a reply to Vilatra’s plea, one judge bench of Justice Revati Mohite-Dere posted any hearing to October 1.

Three different accused — Sawant, Miranda and Parihar — have already filed their bail pleas before the high court. Bombay High Court had last week adjourned the hearings on the bail pleas of three accused to September 29.

NCB had launched an investigation when it received communication from Enforcement Directorate (ED), in which there have been numerous chats related to drug consumption, procurement, usage and transportation in affiliation with the Sushant Singh Rajput death case.

ED had registered an Enforcement Case Info Report in the late actor’s death case on July thirty one when a 1st information report (FIR) was filed by Rajput’s father KK Singh against Rhea Chakraborty in Bihar on July 28.
