World Malaria Day observed in Kohima

World Malaria Day, observed under the global theme “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reignite,” was commemorated at the CMO’s conference hall on April 25, in collaboration with the District Health Society, Department of Health & Family Welfare, and NHM.

According to Chief Medical Officer, Kohima, Dr. Leamnyie Konyak, DVBO (NVBDCP), Dr. Kevilhulie Meyase spoke on the significance of World Malaria Day, highlighting Nagaland’s progress in malaria control and elimination. He noted that the state’s commitment aligns with the national goal of a Malaria-Free India by 2027.

With sustained efforts under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), malaria cases have drastically declined in recent years. He credited this success to improved surveillance, early diagnosis, prompt treatment, and effective vector control measures.

During the program, best performance awards were presented to two Surveillance Workers (SW) and two Urban ASHAs for their contributions. The awardees were Khrieno Meyase (SW) from Sechu block, Shamshung Phom (SW) from Tseminyu block, Kavitoli (ASHA) from Nagabazar, and Amedo (ASHA) from Pezeilietsie.

In his closing remarks, Deputy CMO, Dr. Imchatoshi, encouraged participants to strengthen their commitment and work diligently towards making the district malaria-free, ensuring a healthier future for all.
