Trump has threatened to shut down TikTok in the U.S., citing national security concerns, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said earlier Sunday that the president is ready to announce stern action against TikTok. Pompeo told Fox News,0 “President Trump said, ‘A lot happened,’ and we’re going to fix it.0 He said 0 “And so he will take action in the coming days on the national security risks that are being created by the Chinese Communist Party-linked software TikTok ”
Earlier, media reports suggested that Trump could separate the app’s U.S. operations from its Chinese owners’ Bytedance. But The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday that Microsoft’s plan to buy TikTok’s U.S. operations was averted after Trump threatened to de-enforce the app.
