Voice Of Real Photo Of Muslim Youth Breaking Amar Jawan Memorial

Read Time:1 Minute, 2 Second

Twitter user Harshit Mittal tweeted two pictures in which Muslim youth are seen to damage the Amar Jawan Memorial. Actress Swara Bhaskar, quoting the tweet, described the picture as ‘poor photoshop’.

What is the truth?

These photos are original and not photoshopped. These photos were taken in 2012 when the Mumbai-based Sufi organization Raza Academy held violent demonstrations in Mumbai to show unity with the Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar.

How to investigate?

By cropping a part of the photo and doing a reverse image search, we got a news report of Mid-Day published on August 29, 2012. Both these photographs were present in this report. Credit was given to photographer Atul Kamble for the photographs.

According to the report, one of those who damaged the Amar Jawan Memorial was identified as Abdul Qadir Mohammad Yunus Ansari, who was arrested 18 days after the violence.

Times Fact Check has done a fact check attached to these photos earlier as well when they were shared stating demonstrations against CAA.

The conclusion

Times Fact Check has found that Swara Bhaskar has dubbed the original photos of Muslim youths damaged by the Amar Jawan Memorial as fake.

However, after much troll, Swara deleted her tweet and made a correction tweet.
