On September 3, 2008, Delhi was rocked by serial blasts at one of the three places in Delhi. The bomb blast at Karol Bagh, Connaught Place, Greater Kailash killed 30 people and injured over 100 people. Four bombs from the Regal Cinema Hall, India Gate and Parliament Street in Connaught Place were recovered and defused before the police exploded.
The terrorists were in flat number 108 located at L-18 of Batla House
The Special Cell had conducted a rapid investigation and found that the terrorists of the Indian Mujahideen who carried out the incident are all staying in Flat No. 108, located at L-18, Batla House. When the team of brave inspector Mohan Chand Sharma reached the flat to arrest the terrorists on the morning of September 19, as salesmen in plain clothes, the terrorists started firing on the policemen from inside.
Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was martyred in the encounter
Two terrorists Atif Amin and Mohammad Sajid were killed in the encounter, while two others Mohammad Saif and Ariz Khan managed to escape. A terrorist Zeeshan was caught by SAIL. Encounter expert Mohan Chand Sharma, an encounter specialist who led the encounter, was martyred after being shot. After the encounter, political parties and Jamia Millia Islamia University teachers and students started protesting over the arrest of locals suspected of helping the terrorists. Ariz kept the bomb in Greater Kailash
SAIL says Ariz Khan played a key role in the serial blast in Delhi. The bombs were planted by Ariz in the park located in the M Block market of Greater Kailash. IM terrorists Mohammad Saif and Khalid alias Kodi had brought explosives from Udupi, Karnataka, had brought explosives from Udupi in Karnataka to Delhi. In Delhi, he was received by Ariz with Atif Amin. Ariz and Sajid had purchased explosive items from various markets including Lajpat Rai Market.
