Shabnam, who killed 7 people of her own family along with her lover, has sent a mercy petition to Governor Anandiben Patel. Shabnam is hopeful that she might get an apology this time. Although mercy petitions have been dismissed from the Supreme Court and the President earlier, Shabnam and Salim, convicted of this heinous murder case, still have options.
In this case, both were sentenced to death by the district court of Amroha in 2010. The High Court was also hanged. When the case reached the Supreme Court in 2015, the judgment of the Lower Court was also upheld there. Shabnam’s mercy petition was also rejected by President Pranab Mukherjee on 11 August 2016.
The petition will be sent to the President through the Governor
In 2019, the reconsideration petition of Shabnam’s hanging from the Supreme Court was also rejected. Today Shabnam is lodged in Rampur jail and is awaiting his execution. Now, Shabnam has sent his petition to the President through the Governor, while his son has also requested the President for mercy for the mother. Shabnam’s son is minor and goes to jail to visit his mother.
Option to send mercy petition to Governor
Explain that after getting the death sentence from the Supreme Court, any person can send a mercy petition for the foreign national criminal to the President’s office or the Ministry of Home Affairs. Apart from this, a mercy petition can also be sent to the Governor of the concerned state. The governor sends mercy petitions to the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Azad will be the first woman in India to be hanged
After these two appeals, Shabnam currently has hope that he might get relief from the President. However, if the President upholds the decision in the Review Petition, Azad will be the first woman in India to be hanged. On the other hand, preparations were completed in Mathura’s Women’s Prison for the execution of Shabnam, but the jail administration says that at the moment she does not have such information.
Shabnam has started living quietly in jail
Shabnam’s death warrant can be issued at any time and Shabnam can be hanged at any time. Rampur Jail Superintendent says that Shabnam has realized that death decree can come anytime. Nowadays she lives quietly in prison. Do not talk to anyone more. Earlier she used to teach tailoring to the women of the jail and also to their children.
