As demand for the Sputnik V vaccine increases, Russia is in contact with several Chinese companies to ensure its supply. In recent times, Russia has announced three agreements with Chinese companies for the production of 26 million dose vaccines. This decision will ensure the early supply of vaccines to countries in Latin America, West Asia and Africa.
These countries have placed orders for the Russian vaccine, because the US and the European Union are focused on domestic needs. The Russian vaccine was initially criticized. However, the figures published in the British Medical Journal Lancet silenced most critics. It said that the vaccine is not only safe, but its effectiveness is 91 percent.
Now experts are questioning whether Russia can meet the worldwide demand for vaccines. While there is a demand for crores of doses, it has supplied only a small portion according to the demand. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the demand for Sputnik V far exceeded Russia’s domestic production capacity.
