France has imposed a lockdown for a month in 16 regions, including the capital Paris, fearing a third wave of Corona. It took effect from Friday night. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), infections have increased at the rate of 10% in Europe in the past week.
On Friday, 34,998 new patients were found in the last 24 hours in France. In Paris, beds have been filled in almost all ICUs. French Health Minister Oliver Vernon said about 1200 people are admitted to the ICU in Paris. This number is more than the third wave of Corona that occurred in November.
However, French Prime Minister Jean Castex said that this lockdown would not be as strict as previous lockdowns. This time people will be able to get out of the houses for a walk. But they will have to live within a radius of 10 km from their home.
There is almost a national lockdown in Italy since last Monday. Spain refused an exemption for the Easter festival. Germany also has a partial lockdown in most areas. In Europe, more than 2 lakh new infections were found in the last 24 hours on Friday, due to which the situation is worsening.
Europe: Early waiver became fatal during the second wave
According to experts, Europe lost the chance to stop the third wave of Corona. Now it has become uncontrollable. France’s epidemiologist Catherine Hill says – The second wave in November was not over yet and we relaxed the lockdown.
People started going out for Christmas shopping. The British variant of the virus, on the other hand, added fuel to the fire. Catherine Smallwood, WHO’s Europe’s senior emergency officer, says that we only warned two months ago when the UK variant of the virus had spread across Europe. If this British virus once dominated, then the situation would become uncontrollable. Experts say that now the same conditions are being created again in America.
