Israel-Hamas War : PM Netanyahu Meets Families Of Missing, Captive Israelis
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the families of those missing and held captive by Hamas for the first time since the group’s assault, which resulted in over 1,300 lives lost. The meeting was held to address concerns of family members who have criticized the government’s response to those detained in Gaza.
UN coordinator Lynn Hastings has expressed concern that Israel is heading toward the destruction of Gaza. She emphasized the urgent need for the unconditional release of hostages held by Hamas and called for immediate, unconditional access for delivering life-saving aid to Gaza. Hastings underlined that the delivery of aid should not be contingent on other conditions.
he ongoing conflict between the Palestinian group Hamas and Israel has killed around 4,000 people on both sides of the Gaza Strip. While 1,300 people were killed during Hamas’s unexpected onslaught on Israel, the retaliatory bombardment on the Gaza Strip killed more than 2,670 people.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met on Sunday evening for the first time with the families of missing and captive Israelis from Hamas’s October 7 assault on Israel, amid harsh criticism by relatives that the government has forsaken those being held in Gaza.
In a statement following the meeting, a forum of families with loved ones believed to be held hostage in Gaza said that Netanyahu had vowed to work for their return as soon as possible.
“Netanyahu told the families that one of the goals of the war is the return of the captive and missing,” the statement from the families read, after the meeting at an IDF Home Front Command base in Ramle.
In response, the families forum issued a statement slamming the government for “effectively saying that it is abandoning its citizens who have been kidnapped.”
