Israel-Hamas War : Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that Israel would not agree to a cessation of hostilities with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. At a media briefing on Monday, Mr Netanyahu said a ceasefire would amount to surrendering to Hamas.

“Calls for a ceasefire are calls for Israel to surrender to Hamas, to surrender to terrorism… this will not happen,” he said, vowing Israel would “fight until this battle is won”.

The UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees UNRWA on Monday said that nearly 3,200 children have been killed in Gaza in just three weeks.

“This surpasses the number of children killed annually across the world’s conflict zones since 2019,” UNRWA head Philippe Lazzarini said.

According to the Gaza health ministry, more than 8,000 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since the war began.

Israeli ground forces have been fighting inside the Gaza Strip and air strikes pounded the Palestinian territory in response to the October 7 attacks, when Hamas operatives killed 1,400 people and took more than 230 hostages.

Japan today said that it has imposed a fresh set of sanctions on individuals and a company connected to the Hamas group.
Individuals including Hamas operatives Muhammad Ahmad ‘Abd Al-Dayim Nasrallah and Ayman Nofal were newly added to the list of people and organisations deemed as terrorists by Japan.
The sanctions consist of freezing the assets of individuals and a company that have helped fund Hamas.
