Israel Hamas War : A massive explosion at a hospital in Gaza City killed hundreds of people Tuesday, Hamas said, after intensifying bombardments near towns in southern Gaza rattled civilians where Israel had ordered them to take refuge.
Hamas attributed the blast to an Israeli airstrike, but the Israeli military said it was not involved and the explosion was caused by a misfired Palestinian rocket. Hamas’ military wing also said an Israeli airstrike on a refuge camp killed a top Hamas commander.Meanwhile, thousands of people trying to escape Gaza are gathered in Rafah, which has the territory’s only border crossing to Egypt.
Mediators are pressing for an agreement to let aid in and refugees with foreign passports out. The US hoped to break a deadlock with President Joe Biden headed to the region, but a planned summit in Jordan was postponed.
Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon on Wednesday reiterated the Israeli Prime Minister’s claim that the Hospital in Gaza was attacked by an Islamic Jihad rocket and said that after killing hundreds of civilians, Hamas was portraying itself as “victims”.
The Israeli military urged Gaza City residents to relocate southward on Wednesday, saying in a new evacuation advisory that there was a “humanitarian zone” with aid available in Al-Mawasi, 28 km (17 miles) down the coast of the Palestinian enclave.
“The IDF calls on Gaza City residents to evacuate south for their protection,” said a social-media post by the military.
Taking to X, he said, “THE HOSPITAL IN GAZA WAS HIT BY AN ISLAMIC JIHAD ROCKET!! This ability of the Palestinians to invade 30 Jewish communities, slaughter 1400+ Israelis, kidnap more than 200, shoot 7000+ rockets at Israeli civilians and still play the victim is amazing. The ‘eagerness’ of some in the world to accept these lies by #HamasISIS is disappointing but not necessarily surprising.”
