US Stock Market Live: Dow futures down 180 points on tariff threat; Gold prices gain

US Stock Market Live: Futures on Wall Street have tanked in the early hours of Friday morning Indian time, after US President Donald Trump teased a ‘major statement’ he intends to make on Russia on Monday. The Dow futures are down over 200 points, while those on the S&P 500 and Nasdaq have dropped 30 points and 120 points respectively.

Trump teased that he plans on making a major statement on Russia on Monday and that he is disappointed in the Vladimir Putin-led nation. He also announced that Canada will face a 35% tariff starting August 1, further fuelling uncertainties around the global tariff war which he initiated in April. US benchmark indices ended higher on Thursday, devoid of any major directional cue, with Airline stocks rallying after Delta Airlines spoke of demand stabilising.

Trump’s teasing remarks have led to a spike in oil prices, while the lack of clarity in what he plans on doing, also fuelled haven buying in Gold. The US Dollar Index continues to strengthen further, moving towards the 98 mark. Watch this space for all the live updates.
